YORKSHIRE ALES, SNAITH

A self described 'quirky, independently run bar that sits in the town of Snaith', Yorkshire Ales is a relatively new addition to this East Yorkshire market towns high-street. Earlier this week I paid my first visit to the bar after seeing raving reviews from the locals online and found myself entering with high expectations.

As me and my friend arrived we were taken to the outdoor beer garden because Look North were filming inside, which just shows how much attention this place is getting! Though small, the beer garden is well decorated and provides a very pleasant atmosphere for you to enjoy your drinks. Blankets are supplied for when the air turns a bit cooler, and there are fairy lights and candles, though these weren't used during our visit - I think because there weren't many people there what with the TV cameras and the sun going in this week! I have to say that the outdoor seating area is a lot more modern than the indoor, which carries a more traditional pub feel to it.

The drinks are what makes this place so attractive I think. It's so rare to find somewhere in a small town that offers cocktails, but Yorkshire Ales provides its customers with a few different cocktail options which the staff are more than happy to make. I had the Pornstar Martini and it was super tasty, it didn't take long to make but the barmaid offered to bring it out to me so I didn't have to stand about at the bar waiting, which I thought was a good example of their excellent service. The staff are all very friendly and chatty, with it being a family run pub you can tell that they're all striving to work together and create a wonderful experience for their customers because it means so much to them that their family business succeeds! It's really lovely to see them all working together to make this dream come true.

They also made my dreams come true by offering out an extensive range of flavoured gins & gin liqueurs! Low calorie, super tasty and served in a balloon glass - is there anything not to like about gin!? I had the raspberry and grapefruit to start, and later tried the sweet violet - both with fever tree diet tonic! I really enjoyed these drinks and loved that they were poured in proper gin glasses with fruit and ice. When you're drinking out it's these little extra touches that make it worth the trouble of getting dressed up and paying that bit extra for your drinks! Which leads me onto my next point, the price. For two cocktails and two double gins it cost me £26. As a student I am very much used to taking a trip into the city centre to find a Revolution or a Slug and Lettuce, where admittedly you could get a lot more for this sort of money because of the two-for-one deals those sorts of chain bars offer. However, considering all of the work that goes into making your drinks at Yorkshire Ales, the wonderfully welcoming service, not to mention the fact that there's nothing like it nearby and you don't have to travel very far to get there, I think the price was very reasonable. Cocktails are always going to be quite expensive, and honestly, so is gin! I didn't know how much the drinks were when buying as I wasn't given a menu, but instead was recommended a few things by the barmaid, but I was more than happy to part with my money after having such a lovely evening. Of course they also offer other drinks, with lots of ales available to try - would you believe it? So there's plenty of choice whether you have a sweet tooth like me or want a taste of some proper Yorkshire beer.

If you live locally then I'd definitely recommend checking Yorkshire Ales out, especially on a sunny day so you can sit out in the beer garden! You can also rent the space out for events and occasions, which I know has been a popular thing for customers to do this summer. Get yourself down and have a taste of city living in this cute, close-knit community pub!
